Brief history of the Romanticism movement: Although it is difficult to point out the exact start of romanticism, it was the largest artistic movement of the 1700's. This movement gave influence throughout many continents, and to every artistic discipline into the mid-nineteenth century. Embracing freedom and revolution in their art and politics, romanticist cultivated individualism, reverence for the natural world, idealism, and physical & emotional passion. Romantic poets such as Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe, Percy Bysshe Shelly, and George Gordon Lord Byron set themselves in opposition to the order and rationality of classical and neoclassical artistic perceptions.
