Brief history of the Black Arts Movement: The Black arts movement is essential a branch of the Black power movement. This Was the movement in which African Americans changed the views of political economic and civil power. The Black arts movement was established between 1960 and 1970 but still lives today. Poets including Amiri Baraka, the founder of the movement, Nikki Giovanni, Rosa Guy and Maya Angelou helped the uprising in social awareness. Black poetry allowed African Americans to create their own identity and reach beyond the suppression of ourselves and our society.
Literary Devices Found In Poem:

In his poem, Baraka lightly expresses the the material things that suppress our society.
